Investment Management with its wealth of market participants - often small and sometimes secretive firms - is more difficult to cover as an overall industry - however, BaileyHoffmannCurcio have a few useful relationships mainly in Germany, the UK and Switzerland. Risk positions within Investment Management usually have a regulatory and/or Operational Risk focus but increasingly we see stronger efforts to measure and manage Market and Credit Risk outside the Portfolio Management function. We expect more hiring activities in the future. Portfolio Management itself remains an attractive perspective for Risk Managers although this kind of move only happens occasionally.
Energy...
Energy firms and in particular their Trading units have over the last few years become major employers for Risk talent. BaileyHoffmannCurcio works with the Group Risk function and Energy Trading arms of Energy firms mainly in Germany, the UK and Switzerland.
Non-Financial Services Organisations...
Risk Management outside Financial Services firms is rarely defined as a separate function - often Risk is covered by Audit - and even if it is, Enterprise Wide Risk Teams are small and focussed on non-Financial Risk. Financial Risk Management - mainly Interest Rate, FX and Commodity Risk - is usually run by the Treasury, Commodity Risk sometimes by Purchasing/Procurement. We expect Non-Financial Services to increase their attention to systematically managing Risk and expect to be more active in this market. For lack of opportunity BaileyHoffmannCurcio currently only have sporadic activities in this space.
